Gachagua Alleges AG Justin Muturi Was Fired Over Dam Deal Refusal, Cites Climate Change Agenda as Money Laundering Front

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive claims regarding the recent dismissal of Attorney General Justin Muturi by President William Ruto. Speaking in Embu County over the weekend, Gachagua alleged that Muturi was ousted after declining to sign a controversial agreement involving Italian contractors linked to the long-stalled Kimwarer and Itare Dam projects.

According to Gachagua, these agreements were tied to projects that had already consumed approximately Ksh 38 billion of public funds. He accused the government of using the climate change narrative as a smokescreen for what he described as a money laundering scheme.

“Ruto called me and told me that Justin Muturi ni mtu mjinga sana. Ukitaka kumwambia na Ki-Embu mwambie yeye ni mtu bure na mjinga sana. Very incompetent. He is sabotaging my programs—ulitoa wapi huyo mjinga?” Gachagua claimed during the address.

The former DP further alleged that President Ruto’s once vocal push on climate change had gone silent since Muturi’s refusal to sign the deal, implying a direct connection between the agenda and questionable financial motives.

This revelation, if verified, would add another layer of controversy to the already contentious Kimwarer and Itare dam projects, which were previously marred by allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

As of now, State House has not issued a formal response to the allegations.
