In a strongly worded press statement, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya addressed what he termed as “shameful and mannerless” utterances made by some political leaders during the funeral of Mama Anne Nanyama in Bungoma County. The funeral, held on January 3, 2025, was marked by heated political rhetoric, where Natembeya was the target of severe verbal attacks and baseless allegations.

Natembeya revealed that certain leaders accused him of orchestrating extrajudicial abductions and murders during his tenure as Regional Commissioner. He vehemently denied these claims, stating that his career has been defined by transparency, integrity, and service to the Kenyan people.

“I resigned from my position as Regional Commissioner without a stain or scandal,” Natembeya affirmed, further noting his commitment to addressing extrajudicial abductions, a cause he has championed to provide justice for affected families.

The governor criticized the political leaders for their insensitivity, especially towards families mourning their missing loved ones. He described the actions of these politicians as a diversion from critical national issues, accusing them of lacking emotional intelligence and using funerals as platforms for political point-scoring.

Natembeya also issued a call to action for unity and a focus on justice, urging Kenyans to stand against extrajudicial killings. “The dream of freeing the Luhya community from the chains of egocentric politicians will not be dimmed by corrupt leaders,” he declared.

The statement concluded with a bold commitment to truth and justice: “The truth does not mind being questioned. A lie does not like being challenged.”

Natembeya’s remarks have sparked widespread discussion, with many Kenyans rallying behind his call for accountability and an end to the politicization of funerals.
