Nancie Mwai’s New Level Cosmetics is facing criticism after numerous consumers reported experiencing severe allergic reactions to its lip gloss. The product, which recently saw a surge in sales following holiday discounts, has left many with rashes, swelling, blisters, and severe irritation.
“Every time I apply the lip gloss, I get a reaction on my lips,” says a customer from Nairobi. “I decided to give up on the product.”
The lip gloss, ironically dubbed the Toxic Chocolate Butter Lipgloss, originally priced at KES 1999, was marked down to KES 1000 during the holiday season, fueling a buying frenzy among consumers. However, the discounted price has been overshadowed by the growing number of complaints regarding severe allergic reactions.
New Level Cosmetics has yet to issue a statement addressing these concerns.
Dermatologists advise individuals experiencing adverse reactions to any beauty product to immediately discontinue use and seek medical attention if necessary.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has not yet announced whether an investigation into these allegations will be conducted.
