Senator Cherargei Criticizes CS Murkomen Over Rising Insecurity

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has strongly criticized Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen over the worsening security situation in Kenya. Cherargei contrasted Murkomen’s leadership with that of former CS Kithure Kindiki, who was credited with better handling of crime and security threats.

The senator’s remarks come amid a rise in machete gang attacks and terrorism, particularly in Turkana and North Eastern Kenya. The surge in violence echoes past incidents, such as the 2014 machete attacks in Lamu County, which resulted in five deaths and were often linked to Al-Shabaab militants or local conflicts.

To address the escalating insecurity, the government has imposed dusk-to-dawn curfews in several counties, including Turkana and Samburu, aiming to curb banditry and ethnic clashes. The security situation has also drawn international attention, with recent UK travel advisories highlighting Kenya’s ongoing security concerns.

Cherargei’s statement underscores growing frustrations over the government’s handling of security, as Kenyans call for immediate and effective measures to restore stability.
